We had the pleasure of spending 3 days with Emanuel. Day 1: He picked us up from Guimaraes. Then recommended, reserved, and drove us to a very nice wine tasting experience at Quinta Santa Eufemia high in the hills above the Douro River between Regua and Lamego. He was flexible; on the spur of the moment, he drove us to the top and bottom of the Sanctuary in Lamego before dropping us off at Quinta Sao Bernardo.
Day 2: Pick up at Quinta Sao Bernardo on the Douro River, short stop in Amarante, lunch at Pena Restaurante, drop off at Vila Nova de Gaia.
Day 3: pick in Gaia across from Porto, 2 -hr stop in Obidos, drop off in Sintra.
Emanuel helped us reserve restaurants and wine tasting. He found very convenient drop off and pick up locations when hotels were located in pedestrian-only areas. He stayed with the taxi and safeguarded our luggage while we dined, toured, tasted, and shopped.
Even though he isn't a tour guide, I learned more about Portugal from Emanuel than I did from my Portuguese language teacher.
Having Emanuel, who lives in Regua, take care of the logistics, safely navigate very narrow, curvy roads, act as the designated driver, and describe his Portugal to us was one of the highlights of our trip.
