点评：The trip from Hill City to Keystone took about 55 minutes; and as advertised, it was scenic. We went through forests and passed farms, and a recorded narrative explained what we were seeing and its significance. We saw wildlife including deer and wild turkeys.
We had about 20 minutes in Keystone. That was enough time to use the restrooms and grab a beverage. We watched as the engineer refilled the water, and visually checked all the running gear. Then we headed back up the mountain to Hill City. That trip took about 15 minutes longer because of the grade.
The ride back included more beautiful scenery. We had seats on the other side of the coach, so it was mostly new to us. This time we saw deer and wild turkey several times.
Suggestions:
When you select your seats, keep in mind that some of the cars have fixed windows, and some have open windows. If you want to take photographs, the open windows are better.
The train does not turn around. The engine just moves from one end to the other. I suggest you book on the right side, facing the front of the train, on the way to Keystone. Book seats on the opposite side on the return. That way you will get to see the scenery on both sides of the track.
We were at the back of the train on the way out, and saw very little wildlife as it was running away. That car was now at the head of the train on the return leg, and we saw much more wildlife. I think being at the head of the train is better if wildlife is important to you.
