Great Ski Mountain, Not so Great Everything Else
Vail Mountain Resort的点评
点评：As a ski mountain Vail is great - huge amount of runs for all skill levels. But for a place to bring kiddos its not so easy and there's limited things to do beyond skiing compared to other mountains. Lions Head has a top of the mountain magic carpet that was fun, and a "discovery center" yurt that has a few things in it. And Golden Peak has a few other magic carpets but takes some walking/shuttling to if you are not staying at that location.
While touted as "ski-in, ski-out", it's probably better to state that Vail is "walk a lot, ski, walk a lot". Most people use ski/boot storage services to avoid the extensive walking. But realize that shuttle service requires a long walk to get from the bus stop to the lifts. It's not convenient unless you store your gear near the mountain. So be forewarned if you go, either get a place near the lifts, or get a boot/ski storage place near the lifts to save all the walking in your boots!
We tried a lot of the famous places in town for dinner, and they were good, but most seem overrated in terms of quality, service, or value. And plan on making reservations or you may not be able to find anything, which is another hassle with Vail. And overall service seems to be spotty, with a bit of an attitude. The staff at most places seems to be harried, i.e. customers are a hassle, and waiting is the norm. Thanks Vail.
Knowing the above, we will probably look at other mountains next time before heading back to Vail.
