Chennakesava Temple, Somanathapura的点评
点评:Surprised this marvelous 800+ year old temple with exquisite sculptures has less than 40 TA reviews so far. Circular pillars you would see here looks so perfect that they seem to be made with a modern lathe. I overheard a guide mentioning, these stone pillars were ground to shape by mounting them on a potters wheel kind of structure which are rotated by cows/bulls and ground to shape by using a stationary sharp tool. Other sculptures along the walls are very intricate and detailed which would have taken quite a bit of time to sculpt without mistakes or cracks. Awe-inspiring sculptures and engineering that make India proud. It elicits pride and appreciation for Indian artisans of the bygone era. Many sculptures are made of a single piece of stone. Note that there are no poojas in this temple and it is more of a museum. There is also a small museum at the entrance describing the construction details with pictures.
