点评:It by far is one of the best preserved monuments of Hoysala Architechture. We were there during September 25 Navratri preceding Dushhera, when the overall atmosphere is electric and vibrant in the whole Mysore region.
The temple stands out, in a well manicured garden and a welcoming rain tree trying to compete with the temple pillar at the entrance. The first thing that hits you are the very heavy perfectly rounded black stone columns, that cannot have been made unless on a lath over 800 years ago - a very difficult engineering feat even today.
The beauty of the architecture and the detailing of the design are equally matched, if not surpassed, by the exquisite carvings inside and out of the main temple complex. The resurrection of the monument (well documented in the presentation in the display gallery outside) has been perfectly achieved to convey the grandeur of the monument while keeping it alive through the intricate sculptures - each masterpiece singing in silence.
I promise, the time will contract or expand to soak in the heritage, depending on your interest and mood while you are at the temple. We traveled (almost an hour+) from Mysuru and exceeded the time allocated by a mile (time and distance formula does not work here :)). On a working day with mid-morning sun rising from behind the temple, the whole wonderful monument was almost to ourselves.
