点评:I visited Peterley Manor Farm for the first time, travelling from Chelsea to spend the afternoon with a local friend who is a regular. We had a wonderful experience at the café — great food, lovely staff, and the kids (ages 3 and 4.5) had a great time playing on the lawn.
Unfortunately, our visit was spoiled at the very end by shockingly poor customer service at the farm shop. We went in to buy some ice lollies for the children (five in total), and were met with rude and dismissive behaviour from a staff member named Victoria Plunkett Smith.
Despite the shop being nearly empty, she was impatient and abrupt with my 3-year-old son, telling him three times to “move” while he was simply standing near the till. When one ice lolly was opened (with the wrapper still intact for scanning), she reacted with unnecessary hostility and said, “Well you have to now,” when I offered to get another for scanning.
We were made to wait over 15 minutes as she struggled to find the barcodes — not our fault — all while speaking coldly to us and the children, who were just talking and laughing amongst themselves. Other staff also kept telling them to “move out the way” with no warmth or understanding for how young they were.
When I asked for Victoria’s name, she refused and dismissively told me, “You can go back home now. I’ve had customers leave because of you and your children making noise.”
I went back to amazing staff at the cafe , explained what happened , and apologised for her behaviour towards us.
It was a deeply upsetting end to what had been a lovely day. I expected far better from a family-friendly farm, and I left with a heavy heart. I had planned to recommend Peterley to other London parents — we’re always looking for weekend escapes — but sadly, I now feel I can’t. I sincerely hope the management addresses this and invests in training staff who interact with families and young children.
The café team were lovely — the farm shop, not so much
