点评:A 12-day safari of eight children and 24 adults in our party of family and friends having no more than one degree of separation - plus our six fabulous guides, whom we will remember with fondness and respect.
I will not post photos here. Instead, I wish to praise Carnivores Safaris and Lucas Mhina, owner, for a well designed itinerary and a well run safari company. And, praise our knowledgeable, caring guides, whose running color commentary of what they saw enlightened and enriched us. And, acknowledge and thank the lodge and camp staff for their hospitality.
Our first impression of Carnivores Safaris was formed at their safari orientation. The introduction of Tanzanian history was informative as was of our planned itinerary for us. Thereafter, they held an evening recap of the day's highlights, eliciting opinions from each of our children, who did not hesitate to answer. Each of our guides also chimed in as well as some of the adults. They then laid out next day's planned activities, emphasizing the departure time and the things that we must get done before then. They run a tight safari company without being overbearing..
We tourists changed trucks daily, to experience all our guides. In conclusion, none of us missed their genuine enthusiasm for their work! They NEVER tire of what they see and then describe to us, even if they've seen it a thousand times before. Equally hard to miss is their encyclopedic knowledge of dozens of animals, birds and their habits, some of which are surprising but make sense. When they occasionally come across something that they don't fully know or wish to confirm the facts, they keenly thumb through their guide books, sometimes after having moved on to other sightings, as any dedicated researcher would do before telling us more. Our guides, it seems to me, are living their dream job; getting paid for doing what they love to do while also meeting hundreds, if not thousands, of interested (interesting?) tourists during their careers.
Our guides also ensured (not just endeavored) that our safety, comfort and needs were met whether in their trucks or at camp. Full stop.
One of our children had a birthday during the safari. After dinner that day, a Tanzanian conga line of well wishers serpentined several times around the dining hall, dancing, singing and clapping their hands, before presenting the birthday cake to her, to the tune of Happy Birthday sung by us all. Happy times. Happy memories.
When one member of our safari suddenly could not comfortably ride in a truck, Lucas Mhina, the owner, drove her to our next lodge so that she could rest in her room. He also had necessary items not available locally delivered to her from Arusha, several hours away. No hesitation. Client need. Client service. They're good people.
You won't regret contacting Carnivores Safaris when you're planning or thinking about going on a safari. Instead, you're far more likely to have a memorable experience, as all 32 of us did on this safari.
