Attractive concept, disappointing execution
The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre的点评
点评：The Sill Visitor Centre looks really good from the outside, and is very spacious inside. We enjoyed our walk to the site of the felled sycamore (:-() on a beautiful day with a lovely breeze.
However, the Landscape exhibit is rather generic and says little about the Sill; it seems to be enjoyable for children, from what we say, but the content for youth and older is limited.
And the café! It also is nicely spacious, attractively designed, with outside and inside seating, but the management of the staff was sadly lacking. We decided against sitting outside (having been seated there) but moving inside seemed to cause a little irritation when we asked to do so. No matter, but then the plentiful staff, with few customers, seemed to wander around rather aimlessly, leaving tables cluttered with used plates and cups – indeed, only one of the 4 or 5 on duty seemed to do the clearing, while others took it in turns to approach customers (quite slowly!) or take drinks from the cold cabinet. It was rather frustrating to watch such disorganised behaviour – lacking proper management.
My coffee (flat white) was delicious, but my wife's tea was insipid, as if boiling water had not been used.
We admire the conjunction of Youth Hostel with Visitor Centre in such a beautiful area, but the café and exhibition leave something to be desired. We hope that someone can grip both.
