点评:This beach is known to locals as Wijaya beach, it is also Dalawella beach on Google maps and now some have started referring to it as “turtle beach” for marketing.
This is not a place for the conscious minded.
If you visit here, PLEASE be responsible! This beach was pristine 12 years ago. Huge change since then due to really poor tourism choices and lack of awareness. I pray the Sri Lankan govt steps in to regulate these areas of natural beauty before they are completely destroyed by desperate locals.
The once pristine sand is now black with oil and pollution, guesthouses have built very close to shoreline, there is an open sewer metres away from the water. Sea and beach are littered with plastic and discarded building materials eg concrete and bricks. There is relentless, unregulated drilling. Guys operating heavy machinery doing a completely shoddy job, it seems anyone can hire this stuff and build, no licences.
Despite this there are still shoals of fish on the reef, but there are 50% less in quantity. Also multiple species have disappeared completely. There are a group of turtles that come here as they are fed by locals everyday so have gotten into that habit. They are hawksbills -some are huge adults so must be over 60 years. They are hounded by tourists -saw so many trying to jump on their backs for a photo. Just awful. Please be aware and responsible if you come to visit! We picked out plastic mobile phone covers, drinks cans, plastic straws from the reef. If people don’t wake up and start being responsible we will loose places like this forever.
