The Tuk Tuk Club的点评
点评：Weather: if you decide to travel here, check the seasons before committing, we had 30-34 during the day, 16-22 at night, no rain
Packing: pack 2 weeks before, then HALVE it. Seriously, no flash clothes are required, boardies, t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts (for sun protection), light fleece for cool evenings/mornings, spray jacket (didn’t get used but you never know, cap for the tuk tuk, broad brimmed hat for any walking. Consider cotton clothes, cool to wear and dry quickly if you are doing your own laundry
Itinerary: so pleased we took the 11 day option, I’ll attach the link to the Tuk Tuk Club, they are brilliant to deal with (www.tuktukclub.com), owner is English (Bruce) and son (Tom)
Fitness: no real strenuous activities, 4-5 klm hike was mainly flat or downhill, the Lod Cave system has a lot of steps, but if I can do it, you can
Driving: if you are coming as a couple, then BOTH of you should get an International Licence (about $65 at RACQ or your states equivalent, just take your drivers licence and a current passport photo). Even though you stop for pee/coffee about every hour and a half, a change of driver just keeps the fatigue at bay, tuk tuk’s are a 3 wheeler and can be a handful on winding roads, not dangerous, just need to wrestle it occasionally around switchbacks, and there are PLENTY of them
Accom: quirky, some in the rice padddies, some fantastic, all spotlessly clean, beds are very hard, we took the doona cover and placed it ON the mattress, found this helped us soft Westerners
Food: great, a bit different to Southern Thailand, they will always ask for your “spicy” level, but fresh and full of flavour, tried street food a few times, also very good
Water: no issues here, every Accom supplies water and the lead tuk tuk carries fresh drinking water. The tuk tuks have an esky, filled with ice every morning to keep your drinks cold. Same as most Asian countries, don’t drink the tap water
Group: look, you can’t pick your fellow travellers, we were lucky to have a group of fun-loving Poms with us, we laughed with, and at, each other every day. Sad to say goodbye, we shared something quite unique. I recommend you get to know those in your group as soon as you can. I actually met one of our group on-line, weeks before we met (Gidday Carol !)
Booze: cheap as, 750ml Chang is 60 baht, about 3 bucks. ABSOLUTELY NO DRINKING IN THE TUK TUK’s
Guides: Boyz, our main guide, leads the convoy in his tuk tuk, ripper bloke, good English, funny as, nothing is too much trouble. Our assistant, Win, didn’t have much English, but the girls loved him, such a gentleman, worked his arse off to keep us happy
Tuk Tuk Club: crossed every “t” and dotted every “i”, made sure that we were looked after everywhere. I loved that they supported small family-run businesses without sacrificing quality. Itinerary isn’t too fast paced that you were exhausted, but plenty of “WOW” moments
If you are looking for 5 star resort style, cocktails beside on pool, on a beach……this trip ISN’T for you !
If you want something left-of-field, quirky, see the REAL Thailand at a slower pace (40-60 kph), have the experience of piloting your own tuk tuk and having a laugh, sometimes at your own expense, then consider this trip, we LOVED it, every minute of it.
