An Unbelievably Aromatic Garden
国际玫瑰试验园的点评
点评：The International Rose Test Garden is in one area of the vast Washington Park and is about 7 acres of vibrant colors. The amazing Garden boasts of more than 10,000 individual rose bushes with 65 different varieties. It seems that every single bush was in bloom on the day that we visited. The heady fragrance was overpowering (in a pleasant way), and the rainbow of vibrant hues was awe-inspiring. You can even do the “smell test” on some roses in the Sensory Garden.
The primary purpose of this garden is to serve as a testing ground for new rose varieties – hence its name. They also offer educational programs at this place about the rose cultures. Most of the roses are commercially available, and about 10 to 20 varieties are replaced each year with some of the best new roses. Every year there are Awards for Portland’s Best Rose. It is no wonder that Portland is known as the “Rose City”.
It was worth our time here to “stop and smell the flowers” present in seemingly endless rows of aromatic flowers.
In keeping with the name, their Gift Shop had “Rose” themed curios and drinks. Very cool…!
