Disappointing Return to the Las Vegas Strip

点评：I’m going to be completely honest, and I know others may feel differently. I last visited Las Vegas around 20 years ago and absolutely loved the vibe. Unfortunately, returning in December 2025 was a big disappointment.
Las Vegas now feels like nothing more than a rip-off. While there is still some glitz and glamour around the central Strip, Bellagio, Paris, etc. the atmosphere drops off quickly beyond that area. Dining is hugely overpriced across the board, including fast-food outlets. Most hotels are designed so you have little choice but to eat within their own precincts, which only adds to the cost.
The hidden fees are what really leave a bad taste. In my case, accommodation for six nights was advertised at $1,800. On check-in, I was hit with an additional $800 in resort fees. These fees are justified as covering pool, gym, and Wi-Fi access, except the pool and gym at my hotel were closed, and Wi-Fi was limited to just two devices. Any additional device was an extra $16 per night.
My advice would be to seriously consider staying well away from the Strip. The money you spend on taxis or ride-shares will likely be far less than the extra taxes, fees, and inflated prices you’ll face staying on the Strip.
From conversations with people on the ground, even locals, staff and other visitors seem tired of these rip-off tactics. It certainly feels like businesses must be suffering in the long run.
There is still opportunities to see some great shows, such as the Cirque du Soleil shows, the Grand Canyon etc, but sadly, the Las Vegas I remembered no longer exists.
