点评：It was 15 minutes after the start of the dawn chorus that the surface of the calm mirror like pond rippled in a V shape. That was my first sighting of a Eurasian beaver. I was immediately struck by its gracefulness in the water leaving behind gentle ebbing ripples.
First impressions are often the most memorable. As we sat in the hide listening to the multitude of different birds awake to welcome the blue sky morning I was full of anticipation and expectations of what may unfold. The single beaver, having undertaken its first inspection returned to the lodge. Soon after three ventured out, two of which were young kits. Our guide Simon had thrown some fresh willow cuttings into the shallows of the pond meters in front of our hide. Sensing breakfast was ready all three beavers beelined to the floating cuttings. My heavens but they are noisy eaters as they strip off the bark and enjoy their vegetarian feast. Unlike whales, when invariable ones photographs fail to capture the moment, with the beavers sitting in front of us they were unperturbed. Their webbed toes, silk like fur and flat tail all on display. Their engineering skills in damn and canal construction is awe inspiring.
Yes photos and videos were taken but in some way it is living and watching in the moment of time that gave me the real pleasure. Sharing their unusual environment I appreciated more all that was around and indeed the magnificance, not only of these creatures but of nature.
