点评:We took this drive on our first afternoon in Death Valley without doing much research and really enjoyed it. It's a one-way dirt road. As with everything in DV, there are interesting and weird rock formations and views everywhere. In this canyon, some of the the formations are mine tailings, but that is an important part of DV history, so still interesting.
The road is narrow, with few places to pull over. We were there not long before sunset, which probably wasn't the smartest idea, because it gets dark quickly when you are next to tall rocks to the west. But that also led to beautiful light in the golden hour, and no traffic behind us. It would be annoying if someone was tailgating.
The drive took a little longer than we thought, so we missed sunset at nearby Zabriskie Point, but we didn't really care.
My car is a Honda Civic, which is not the best car for dirt roads. There was only one point where I felt nervous dodging ruts on a downhill curve -- mostly nervous because if we had a problem at that hour of the day, it is likely that no one would come through for a long time. :-)
