Hot Creek的点评
点评：I've seen a few hot springs, but I really enjoyed this site. It's not far from the main highway, 395, and you can actually hike down to/ among the hot springs which I did not expect.
The hike down is really a walk along a cement path with a wooden railing that allows you to view the small site from above. It takes maybe 10 min to walk down and 15 or 20 to walk back up.
At the bottom, you can walk right up to the creek's edge, as well as various shallow pools. You can't touch the water because it is scalding. (This is not the site for soaking in the pools. That site is Wild Willly's, further up the road, with a few shallow warm "pools" to sit in.)
Here, when you walk around the pools, you can see the steam rising from them. Farther along the creek, the dirt bank rises and you encounter a rock hole with bubbling, boiling hot water that spurts up and splashes on the surrounding rock. You actually hear it before you see it. Very cool.
Maintain a safe distance, naturally. Know that there are no railings or barricades down below. There isn't even an official path. No park ranger was present. Therefore, keep your kids close and warn them ahead of time not to go near the springs and pools.
Tip:
Go at sunset for some beautiful pics. The park closes at 7pm. In October, we visited from 6:15 to 7pm, and caught some pics of a bright full moon as we left.
*EVERY site in this area is a magical place to visit at sunset and sunrise, so be sure to plan to be somewhere beautiful at those times.
