点评:Hard to say how it could be improved. In fact my experience of it was shocking. More shocking because I left a Google review about this experience and instead of replying with an apology for the unacceptable behaviour of its staff, the management replied with some victim blaming and shaming, and not a word about the xenophobic outburst from the only other three customers at the bar when we were leaving.
The management lied in their response, saying we started singing when asked to be quiet. And we didn't sing. They did not ask us to be quiet. Instead they took hundreds of euros from us over the course of a whole evening (plus tips) and expected us to be a quiet, sober group of six people. Are all the people they sell a lot of alcohol to over the course of hours expected to be quiet?
They didn't complain when we were tapping our cards on their machines, they only complained just at the moment when we were leaving, when a Flemish man, shouted an anti-Irish slur at my friends. And then, when we rightfully reacted, we were physically thrown from the bar.
When I say physical, I was literally pushed by force, and I had only returned from the (may I add filthy) toilets to get my coat and leave, and was saying nothing. This is not a friendly place, nor an honest place. They may respond here or elsewhere pretending they were in the right, or that they had just cause, but it's not true.
Two days later, and I still can't believe the behaviour of the staff, never mind the arrogance of their reply to my Google review. And by the way, managers of Cafe Merlo, calling xenophobia racism is a misnomer. Get it right, and apologise when your customers are upset by your behaviour. Otherwise you actually are not a business that actually cares about your customers at all.
