点评:We are experienced travelers who typically travel independently. This trip, however, we wanted to learn from first hand accounts what it was like to live under the Soviet regime. Baltic Holiday’s wonderful guides provided the access we would have been hard-pressed to find on our own—from facilitating interactions with the remote Russian Old Believers and Setomaa communities, to identifying easily overlooked location-based history, to recounting their personal and family stories. These experiences will be among our enduring trip memories.
Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are, of course, much more than their difficult past. Over 30 years into re-acquired independence, the vibrant cultures of these resilient people are once again thriving, visible in beautiful architecture, museums, art, food, and music. Tallin, Riga and Vilnius have all justly been designated UNESCO World Heritage sites. Walking through the bog in Latvia’s Kemeri National Park and exploring Lithuania’s Curonian Spit—a narrow 60-mile stretch of sand dunes and historic fishing villages squeezed between the Baltic Sea and a shallow lagoon, scratched our nature itch.
We worked with Phil to design an itinerary that hit the perfect balance between desired, guided access and independent days to make our own discoveries. We are very pleased with the result. The hotels he chose were comfortable and perfectly located, transfers were on time, and our guides were delightful travel companions. We highly recommend Baltic Holidays if you are considering travel to this rewarding corner of Europe. Go!
