Wonderful Day Hiking, Not as Difficult as the Name Suggests

点评：We walked from the Kingshouse Hotel to the Devils Staircase and back. The Devils Staircase itself is not particularly challenging but I HIGHLY recommend hiking poles if you have any knee issues like I do (osteo-arthritis and two torn meniscus). Cut any walking times I mention by at least a third if you do not have bad knees!
Once you reach the top, you'll notice there are two close by "summits" - I believe Beinn Bheag is to the right and Stob Mhic Mhartuin to the left as you reach the cairns. Beinn Bheag is about 20 easy minutes additional walking, slighly boggy but not too bad when we went. The footpath to the right is hard to see and is before the cairns. Gorgeous views here.
The walk to Stob Mhic Mhartuin is easily seen and it about 30 minutes up, very steep and a bit of a pain. But well worth it when you reach the top as you can wander the broad summit (there are three other cairns if I recall correctly) and rest in the heather to enjoy the views. We were fortunate to have clear skies when we reached these points.
The walk down was fine though I went slowly, but getting back to the hotel made for a long day for my knees and I was extremely slow for the last mile or so. The 15 year old was fine and probably could have run back pretty easily! If you are older than 15, you will be fine if you are reasonably healthy, have good knees, and remember to bring plenty of water and food. Or you can drive to the start and search out parking on the layby. It will be crowded by 11 so get there early.
