点评:I hiked the Devils Staircase as part of the West Highland Way. It was part of the 9 mile day, so I thought I had this in the bag!! I was wrong.
I had heard mixed reviews of people saying it was the hardest part, others saying it was not challenging. Ultimately it comes down to your own fitness levels and stamina. Both of which I was clearly lacking, having to stop to catch my breath multiple times on the way up.
That being said, the views are worth every second. Once at the top, you can see across Glencoe and you realise just how high and far you have walked. It's very rewarding.
The descent is a little tough on the knees. Hiking poles and walking sides downhill where you can definitely eased the pressure on the knees... but again, when you reach Kinlochleven and reward yourself with a pint, or coffee you feel that you have achieved something.
This is also written by someone who lives in Norfolk, where it is FLAT!! So any hill is an achievement for me 😁
