点评:My Dad was in the REME during WW2 in Africa, the Middle East and Europe, as was his brother who was posted to Burma, so there is a family association with the corps and I’ve a keen interest in what they did and WW2 in general.
The museum was excellent, with several vehicles on display including a Scammell Pioneer recovery truck similar to the type which my Dad helped crew during his service. What a fantastic and versatile vehicle, with the example on display being the last in British Army service up to 1980 in Belize.
I learnt a lot bout the corps, their history, the equipment they used and some of the innovations they made. Fascinating. One of the most interesting stories was the REME’s role in making VW a major car manufacturer post-WW2.
The museum is well worth a visit, a really interesting 2-3 hours depending on your interest.
