点评：One of our party had planned the trip meticulously, hotels, parking, how far to travel each day and so on. We started out from Bowness on Solway with a 17 miles stretch that took us to Carlisles Stony Holme Golf club. It was hard going as mostly on hard roads and going through many fields with cows or bulls in. Day two took us from Stony Holme to Banks East turret. Days 3,4,5 and 6 were the best days as we passed through some magnificent countryside. We got to see a lot of sections of the wall and the ruins of some of the forts. The route was well sign posted but beware of the many fields you have to go through with livestock in them. We passed Sycamore gap which was sad to see with the cutting down of the tree. Up to this point the trip had been excellent with many highlights and the group having a good laugh along the way. However the last day was a big let down !! What was supposed to be our finest hour in completing this trek turned to disappointment. The last 6 or 7 miles to Wallsend I can only describe as a dump, there are long stretches where it’s over grown with vegetation, litter everywhere, graffiti on lampposts and walls, fly tipping and areas you just don’t feel safe in. Add to this people speeding past you on bicycles, motorised scooters and e bikes. Also very little in signage for the Hadrians wall path. The end/start point is just a sign post with very little information about the walk behind the rather scruffy looking Segerdunum building. It’s embarrassing that people from all over the world come to walk Hadrians wall and see this !!!
