Kastro good for history not for a peaceful beach

点评：Ok, I appreciate review's are very personal on what we like as individual. My wife and I, have been going to Skiathios for many years, like so many who have found this beautiful island. We had never been to Kastro and my wife was keen to go. We like to hire a scooter as we both have a full licence, and enjoy riding. The ride to Kastro was great, wonderful views as you travel up the mountain. I'm not that good with heights but this is doable because I never feel that it's a sheer drop. However when you get to the top the drop down is very steep and slippery a worn type of rock paving, so not realising how far Kastro beach was we decided to park at the top and walk down. Big mistake it's a long way and I wouldn't recommend unless you are fit with no dodgy knees etc, it's the going back up is the problem. The Old town with castle is visible first and if you enjoy history worth the visit. There is a small car park and somewhere to buy a drink and have a rest in the shade. The journey carrying on to the beach is good if you are a mountain goat it's not a straight forward path but rocky and slippery. When reaching the beach it's not nice fine sand but a grainy coarse dark grit. There is a nice taverna with a rustic feel and the sea when we went, was lovely and clear (apparently not always) there are no sunbeds or parasols for shade so be prepared. The real downer for us was the amount of day boats coming and going , and after an hour we decided to go, three boats had come in that time, and yes I appreciate the taverna and boats have to make a living but we prefer the more peaceful beaches. I hope this gives a fair picture of this destination.
