Great relaxing hotel, ideally located inside south entrance to Gran Sasso

点评：This is a high-end hotel, restaurant and meeting place converted from an old convent. It’s nestled in the hills above the town of Barisciano, right inside the southern entrance to the Parco Nazionale Gran Sasso. The towns of Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Calascio (with its striking castle) are short drives further up the road. Beyond that, Castel del Monte, Farindola, and the Campo Imperatore beckon. This makes the Convento an ideal base for those wanting to explore the park. The rooms are well-appointed, and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The convent grounds are lovely, and host a large garden, an herbarium and a butterfly refuge which are nice tranquil places to stroll and absorb the quiet. It’s relaxing. The farm-to-table restaurant serves well-prepared upscale treatments of traditional Abruzzese dishes. It’s clearly a favorite among locals, of whom there were a number when we ate dinner there. The breakfast buffet is splendid. Highly recommended.
