点评：I have traveled a lot—many countries, many continents—but my experience in the Merzouga's desert with Hmad has been one of the highlights of my life. I had done another desert trip in Morocco before, and I thought it couldn't get any better. I was so wrong.
From the moment we met Hmad, he made us feel comfortable. We started the trip exhausted, and he understood that immediately—he gave us space, let us rest, and didn’t push conversation. As we got more comfortable, we realized what an incredible guide (and person) he is. His knowledge of Moroccan culture, especially the Amazigh (Berber) heritage, is truly fascinating. He answered all our questions and painted a rich and often overlooked picture of these people and their history. You can tell he is a nomad at heart—he knows the roads like the back of his hand.
Driving through the Route of 1000 Kasbahs was an unbelievable experience with Hmad at the wheel. He took us to the best spots, explained everything about the landscapes, the history, and the people. He even played a lot of Berber music, which we loved so much that we brought it back to Spain!
The accommodations he chose for us were perfect, especially in the Merzouga desert. Every place felt authentic and welcoming, just like the people we met along the way. After spending four days with him, it genuinely felt like we had made a great friend, and saying goodbye was unexpectedly emotional.
At first, I thought hiring a driver might make the experience feel too "touristic" or staged. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Hmad is as authentic as it gets, and the places he took us to were far from the usual tourist circuits. Everything felt real, special, and truly unique—like we had been given the privilege of experiencing a different side of Morocco, one that many travelers never get to see.
And finally, I have to say something about the Berber culture and people: they are some of the warmest, most welcoming people I’ve ever met. They make you feel at home instantly, and sharing even a small piece of their world was like stepping into a living history book.
Hmad crafted an incredible experience for us—he was there 24/7 with his extensive knowledge, his great humor, and his genuine passion for his culture. We didn’t just come back home with memories; we came back with a new friend and the desert forever in our hearts. I already know that one day, we’ll be back to see him and the desert again.
