点评：We had read the negative reviews and were a bit worried. But we took precautions.
Got a bit jug of water to bring with us for drinking, extra cash, and more sunscreen, couple bottles of wine as drinks are pricey also apparently. Also made sure we had water shoes for the rough coral on the beaches. Apparently water and drinks sold at hotel are $$$ as are meals. The water at the facility is not potable.
The process to check in at dock was written up as being a confusing series of lineups. I could see this as being confusing for sure. There were no queues, just pushing in. The port fee changed from $16 to $21.
We had our Cartagena guide to help take us through. He told us to tone our expectations down a bit as the hotel is very basic and not a grand resort.
If we had known the boat was not large we would have repacked our bags and left the larger ones at the hotel in Cartagena to bring just a small bag. We are at the end of 10 wks travelling and now have heavy bags.
We were able to use a credit card for the heavy bag fees (60,000 COP).
There were lots of day passengers and only another couple staying longer.
The boat through Navigamus had two 250 Suzuki outboards and all the passenger seats faced forward with nonbulky life jackets. There were about 45-50 on board (including several babies/toddlers. But the next days there were no children among the day guests. The place has more of an adult getaway feel to it than something for kids).
We landed about 10am. Our rooms were ready by 11am. We were able to enjoy the beach until then however.
There is music pumped out continuously on the beach. Loud and latin rap or African sounding. This is annoying. But it shuts down when the day guests leave at 1:30pm.
The power is shut down for a couple of hours once the day guests leave.
They run a generator as there is construction on a new hotel building. There are a few solar panels in various places.
Our little cabin on a private beach was lovely! No complaints! Great sleep with fans blowing. Comfy firm mattress.
Meals were excellent. The fish filet and whole fish, chicken fried rice, salad were very good as was the ceviche. Prices are in line with Cartagena (which is higher than other parts of Colombia but it is a touristy area receiving cruise ships).
Staff friendly but very few spoke English. More French tourists here so maybe French would be more useful here (Colombia in general?)
Swimming off our own beach in front of our cabana, the water was shallow and you’ll need water shoes for the coral but the water is super clear with brightly coloured fish swimming around the corals in deeper water and in the mangroves. We saw an eel or sea snake close to the mangroves.
There are lots of activities that you can do while at the hotel. These come with an additional fee but not exorbitant. You can use the kayaks here for free though.
Overall, we came with low expectations (thanks to negative reviews 🙄) which were happily exceeded. A perfect cap to our most enjoyable time travelling around Colombia. Isla Bela was a very pleasant surprise. We loved our time here.
