点评：Boarding the Thunder 1 as a completely amateur fisher (among company with much more experience), I was going in outside of my comfort zone but any hesitation or nerves were immediately alleviated with the support for Deb and Doug’s expertise and caring. We spent our days fishing for salmon, halibut, and cod against a backdrop of stunning coastal scenery. Deb and Doug made sure each of us felt comfortable with the gear and confident on the water, no matter our skill level. Their long experience in this business is clear - not just in how smoothly everything runs, but in how much they care about sharing their knowledge and stories from the area, the Pacific, and the varieties of fish we were bringing in.
The meals were unforgettable. Deb’s cooking was a highlight, with incredible baking and using fresh-caught seafood from traps we set, like crab and spot prawns, turned each meal into something we can never replicate. Sitting down together for a fresh seafood chowder or spot prawn boil after a day on the water felt like the best treat.
The Thunder 1 itself is beautifully crafted and full of character - you don’t often get the chance to stay on a wooden boat like this. Living on board was an adventure in its own right, with the unexpected luxury of a hot shower after a long day at sea feeling absolutely life-giving, especially after some epic fish battles and competing against nosy sea lions for the fish on your line.
What made the trip most memorable was Deb and Doug themselves. Their warmth, expertise, and genuine hospitality created an experience that felt both adventurous and personal. It’s a lot easier to feel great about trip knowing it’s genuine, good humans you’re sharing space with.
Coming home with lots of high quality fish is the icing on the cake - I would recommend the Thunder 1 without hesitation; no matter your level of experience, the memories you make will be long-lasting.
