点评:Fantastic cultural day spent on 3 Mapuchi estancias. Our guide Catalina was excellent, friendly and professional. The first was self sufficient and had cows, sheep, chickens and a wild, overgrown vegetable area. Some of the animals were sold including the fleece to get an income. Magaly was a very humble and sweet natured lady who taught us a lot about the herbs she plants in the fields to keep the animals healthy. The second visit to Juanita's vegetable farm was completely different. This was run as a business and everything was very organised. Her products were sold at market every Friday. She was constantly busy running a huge area by herself (with a little help from her daughter), whilst her husband looked after the sheep. We had a lovely drink and snack here, which we actually thought was our lunch. Our third farm was again vegetables but also ran as a homestay and they were collecting entrance fees to a short trek to a view point to see the Villarrica Volcano. Here we learnt how to roast wheat over a fire, grind it and make wheat coffee, which is only made by the Mapuchi people. Rosita cooked the best lamb lunch that we had had on our two month trip! Definitely worth the visit.
