When Hiking Boots Aren't Enough for Wine Tasting

点评：We attempted to visit this winery on 24/04/25 during a road trip stop in Orange. Unfortunately, we were greeted not with hospitality, but with what can only be described as hostage-level enthusiasm. Our group, dressed in hiking attire (a shocking fashion crime, apparently), seemed to have committed the grave error of not arriving in vineyard-chic.
Despite arriving at 4:20pm—well within their stated operating hours until 5pm—we were met with a comment asking if we were looking for a job. Charming. Assuming it was an awkward joke, we laughed it off and entered, hopeful for a relaxing wine tasting to wrap up our day.
Her husband kindly explained the tasting options, and we asked if we could sit outside to enjoy the beautiful view—because, you know, wine and scenery tend to pair well. He mentioned a leg injury that prevented him from serving outside, which we completely understood and agreed to sit indoors.
That’s when things took an unexpected turn. The woman began suggesting—loudly and repeatedly—that if we were "just here to have a piss," we should sit outside, grab a bottle, and skip the tasting altogether. A unique sales pitch, to say the least.
We were polite throughout and genuinely just looking to enjoy some local wine. Sadly, we didn’t get the chance to taste any, though I’m sure it’s lovely. In the end, service speaks louder than the wine—and if your hiking boots aren’t paired with a blazer, don’t be surprised if you’re treated like you walked into the wrong movie set.
If you're planning a visit, just know you might need to dress for a Vogue shoot to receive anything close to standard hospitality.
