点评:Situated just past the entrance to the Madikeri Fort (the main palace of which is currently closed for renovations), the Government Museum is housed inside a small old church dating to 1855 (according to a partly-erased sign outside). In 1971, the church seems to have been deconsecrated and turned into a museum. It's a really tiny museum, and extremely haphazard: just about anything even slightly old has been put in here. So while there are 14th century stone carvings, there are also modern artworks, typewriters, swords and daggers, weighing stones and so on. Some of it is mislabelled, and even what labels are correct have very scanty information.
More than the museum's collection, I found its building interesting: the church has some beautiful stained glass at one end, and there are several plaques, mostly of white marble, most of them commemorating the dead of the two world wars.
Entry fees are Rs 10 per adult and Rs 5 per child.
