点评:As a healthcare provider, I’m always interested in science and medical museums. We planned a day specifically around going to this museum (which is NOT part of the Smithsonian, and nowhere near the National Mall). Thanks to some metro track work, what should have been a 30-45 minute trip became an hour and half journey. Further, it’s not really walkable from the metro station. So logistically speaking, I would suggest visiting only if you have a car and not if you’re relying solely on public transit.
The museum itself is quite small. There are lots and lots of real specimens to look at, and a docent came through with a cart of preserved organs for people to touch if they wanted. It was remarkable to get to see the bullet that killed Abe (and some of his blood stains!) as well as Garfield’s spine, but I have to be honest that the museum didn’t live up to my expectations. While there were a few unique offerings, it seemed like a lot of it was just multiple examples of the same thing, and it didn’t feel super educational for me.
I can imagine that someone without preexisting knowledge about the human body might find this a lot more interesting, so I don’t want to discourage visiting. I probably wouldn’t suggest making a special trip like we did, but if you’re in Silver Spring/Forest Glen already for other things, go for it.
