点评：On our visit to Jacksonville we visited the Kingsley Plantation. It is part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve which is a National Park Service site. Kingsley Plantation is about a 35 minute drive from Fort Caroline which is also part of Timucuan.
Kingsley Plantation is the former plantation of Zephaniah Kingsley who was a slave trader and planter who grew sea island cotton on the land. He had many enslaved persons on his plantation who did nearly all the labor to keep the plantation functioning and to make wealth for him. Even his wife, Anta, was one of enslaved people captured and brought over from Africa.
It was interesting to learn the history of the place and of Florida in the late 1700s and 1800s.
The planter's house was open to visit while we were there, but it is only open to go inside on certain weekends. There was a barn to visit as well as the kitchen house. Near the front of the property are the ruins of the quarters that were built for the enslaved people who lived and worked on the property. It was very sobering and somber to visit the ruins of the houses that were built for the people who were enslaved to work so hard on the land. I recommend a visit; it is informative and sobering.
