Shinto Shrine in a quiet area up the hill

点评：A couple of days ago while in Yokohama we visited the shrine with friends.
Lucky they know there way around as it could have been a bit hard for us to find up the hill overlooking the town , a lovely quiet spot.
Built in 1870 it enshrines the Shinto Sun Goddess
You walk up steps and pass lots of lanterns and carved stones then enter through a large Torii Gate to the spacious area where the main shrine and minor shrines are situated.
It is all plain and not glitzy befitting a Shinto Shrine .
As we wondered around we came across a little enclosed area with a huge stone memorial, apparently it is a memorial to the Samurai warriors from this area that died in the last Samurai battles of that era..
A person from the shrine then came out to say we were not allowed in there, no explanation why, must be a sacred or controversial area.
They should have a lock on the little gate or a sign saying no entry.
I would love to know why entry is not allowed.
We enjoyed the visi on a very hot afternoon
