We had a wonderful experience discovering Sulawesi with Local Guides. The itinerary was very interesting and allowed us to experience some truly amazing places, from Rammang Rammang and Toraja to the beautiful final days in Dolidi.
There were a few organizational aspects that could have been better. In particular, we found the guide in Toraja rather limited in terms of explanations and communication. We often had to ask questions ourselves to understand the program and what we were going to see, and some practical information about the activities was not provided in advance. We also experienced some issues with accommodation, including a reservation that was initially missing at one of the village stays, despite having booked the tour almost one year in advance.
We shared these concerns directly with Budi during the tour, and we appreciated that he personally came to our hotel to listen to us and reassure us. We believe this shows that Local Guides is willing to listen and improve.
On the positive side, our driver Amos was absolutely excellent: safe, reliable, friendly and professional. A special mention also goes to our stay in Dolidi, which was truly amazing and one of the highlights of our trip.
Overall, despite some aspects that could be improved, we had a great experience in Sulawesi and would recommend Local Guides to anyone planning to discover this wonderful island. With some improvements in guiding, communication and accommodation management, the service could become even better.
