A Surprisingly Rich History Spot — Perfect for Families
The Site of Inohana Castle的点评
点评：We visited Inohana Castle Ruins with our elementary-school-age child, expecting little more than a historic marker — and left genuinely delighted by everything we found.
The castle itself is a replica, but a handsome one — sitting on a quiet hilltop with a lovely view over the city. Inside, it houses a local history museum dedicated to Chiba's past, which made it genuinely engaging rather than just a photo stop. The whole park has a calm, unhurried atmosphere that invites you to slow down and soak it in.
The real surprise was the surrounding grounds. A beautifully maintained Japanese garden themed around the moon, and an elegant sukiya-zukuri building (a traditional refined style of Japanese architecture) open for viewing. Our child was captivated by the intricate wooden details and the way the building and garden feel like one continuous space.
And then there's FabCafe Chiba — a small café quietly tucked inside the historic Inohana-tei villa within the park. We stopped in for a rest and ordered a matcha float and a matcha tonic. Both were excellent: refreshing, distinctly Japanese, not overpowering. The matcha float was an instant hit with our child. Workshops are held occasionally too — that alone had our kid asking to come back.
For families, this is an easy 2–3 hour visit: history, traditional architecture, a moon-garden, and a creative little café, all in one place. A genuine hidden gem, just 55 minutes from Tokyo Station — and only about an hour from Narita Airport, making it a perfect last stop before you fly home.
