点评:Hadn’t heard of Wadlopen before buying the Rough Guide to the Netherlands and was intrigued.
I’m so glad we did it! It was the highlight of our trip (but there are a couple of notes).
We did the shorter 2.5hr circular walk, which another reviewer here identified as taking much longer than that in total as that’s the time you’re out on the mud. You need to be fairly fit and happy to get muddy.
It was mostly Dutch people when we went and the guide didn’t speak much English. We ended up chatting to a Dutch group who spoke good English and we had a great time. I think it would have still been brilliant without getting any translation.
We hired a car but I’m pretty certain that if you got to Pieterburen by bus then they’d get you a lift to the mudflats as they sorted this out at Pieterburen before heading off.
The cake beforehand was a nice touch.
The one thing that annoyed me a bit was having to clean the boots that you pay €8.50 to hire. The taps provided to do the cleaning are rubbish and it takes quite a while to get them to standard that they’ll give you your €50 deposit back (and they do send you away to re-clean them if they’re not happy).
However, even that didn’t ruin an excellent day out.
