点评:I stopped at the Salem NJ Historical Society in downtown Salem, NJ and I have to say that they are one of the most underrated little museums that I have been to during the holiday season.
The Society does such a nice job decorating the museum for the holidays with a beautiful tree in the main gallery and garland along their stairs. The museum is full of interesting artifacts not just from the history of Salem but the surrounding communities as well. They have interesting pieces from the Revolutionary War and from the local businesses including the thriving ice cream business in the town.
They have a new Toy Exhibition with toys through the ages and the development of children's playthings. It was a very creative look on how children see the playthings they have changed and the reasons why these playthings were made for children (preparing them for adulthood with dolls, trucks, garden sets and sewing kits). How children engaged with each other over the years and how much it really has not changed.
The Society does a great job telling the story of why these things are so important to our history and how they play a role in modern times. It is an excellent little museum and should not be missed when you are in the area.
