Newport Mall的点评
点评：We decided to visit Newport Mall on our last night in Manila—easily accomplished as we were staying at nearby Belmont Hotel. We walked the short distance (450m) from the hotel and had to go through airport-style security screening (walk-through scanner and x-ray scanner for personal belongings) outside the mall entrance doors. This four-level shopping mall is quite stunning inside with so many photo-worthy spots to delight both ordinary visitors and selfie seekers. We were here in June and the entrance lobby was decorated with flowering plants with Wizard of Oz-like curved grey path in the middle. Even the long escalators were picture-perfect, with beautiful plants on either side. Didn’t check if they were real or not, either way, lovely interior landscaping.
Our plan was to have dinner at BB.Q Chicken then do a bit of mall sightseeing. We did an online search before coming here and knew the Korean restaurant is somewhere on the 4th floor. On our way, we passed several retail shops and restaurants, some of which offer hallway seating. This mall even has a performing arts theatre on the 2nd floor. We encountered some pushy sales people while strolling an upper floor hallway and found it annoying. We weren’t expecting it here of all places. Newport Mall is supposed to be upscale, right?
After dinner, we returned to The Plaza, that lovely skylight-covered courtyard on the 2nd floor, with the fountain, pergola, big wall clock and an assortment of well-maintained and strategically placed plants and trees. It’s almost like being in a park as there’s even plenty of seating (a lot of them occupied at the time), except there’s air conditioning and the ground is entirely covered in black and white tiles. Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take photos with the lighted tree-like pillars and those curved slatted wooden benches on the 2nd floor. Mall interior is a pleasure to look at and super clean.
