点评:Our visit in July – a disappointing and ethically concerning experience
My girlfriend and I visited this place in July. We had purposely avoided elephant experiences in Chiang Mai that involved bathing the animals, as we don’t believe it’s ethical — even though it's heavily promoted everywhere.
We booked a half-day tour here, hoping for a more respectful and animal-friendly experience. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, things felt off. We paid 4,200 baht, which is quite a lot considering what we got: a brief and superficial explanation about where the elephants came from and their background.
We were then taken into a garden to collect some food for the elephants and had the chance to feed and touch them. After that, we received a quick snack and waited for the next group to arrive, so we could go through the exact same steps again — this was the core of the “half-day tour.” Feed the elephants again, take pictures, and go for a short walk in the woods.
What concerned us most was how the elephants were treated. If an elephant didn’t want to walk, it was pushed forward. If it didn’t approach the tourists, it was coaxed or lured. It became clear this was just another tourist attraction — one we would never return to.
The elephants repeat the same routine 7 or 8 times a day. While it might be a better life than where they came from, this is still far from ethical wildlife care. We strongly advise against supporting this kind of experience.
