点评:The Harvard Art Museums contain an excellent collection of diverse art works often used in the university's arts courses. Located just a couple of blocks from Harvard Park (and the subway stop), this modern building consolidates art once spread out among multiple museums. The galleries speak out over 3 main floors + a cafe & museum shop on the main floor.
The art works are drawn from a variety of genres; ranging from European to American to Asian, and timeframes from neolithic to modern art. Many of the art was originally collected by various Harvard alumnus and donated to this Museum; several interesting galleries were focused on an individual donor's collection. It's interesting to see what Harvard graduates thought was worthy of an individual's collection over the years. The stories on the placards next to the art often described how the art was collected, not always in legal or ethical means.
Some of the Museum's galleries were also focused on exhibitions focused on topics related to a current Harvard class. During my visit an exhibition on "Collections in Motion" showed how current prints in various genres have been produced recently. This is an interesting way to see what current university classes are covering in the art world.
This extensive Museum is free, so it's a nice way to see interesting artwork on a budget.
