点评:This was our first trip with Outback Spirit - tho far from our first trip to remote outback northern Australia, having been to Kakadu, Litchfield etc, Uluru & Kings Canyon and several trips to the Kimberley - but it was our most immersive and memorable. Arnhem Land is something else. From our first experience with the genuine welcome to country from the Yolnu people on the beach at Nhulumbuy to the luxurious final stop at Seven Spirits Bay, we felt privileged to share and learn so much of the culture and lifestyle of the traditional owners of this wild unforgiving part of Australia. We were particularly fortunate in two ways - our touring group had only 7 (compared to the regular 26) and we had Glen as our driver and guide. Glen's knowledge, passion and deep love of this land shone through and his many personal stories and flashbacks enabled all of us to gain a deep and genuine appreciation of the area and its people. Thank you Glen.
It's a demanding tour for the leader and the participants with long drives on heavily corrugated roads (softened by the superb Mercedes bus) but every (two-night) stop at the Outback Spirit lodges was a new and exciting experience in so many ways. Accommodation is in luxurious safari suites (but don't leave any lights on at night if you don't want to share the comforts with a swarm of blood-thirsty mosquitoes!) and in each case, the dedication and commitment of the lodge managers and staff was amazing. The trip includes fishing trips (with guaranteed catches of Barra and Spanish mackerel) and several extended visits to traditional craft centres where we learnt so much - and yes, we could not resist buying a couple of beautiful paintings from the local indigenous painters. At the end we felt we had gained a real appreciation of the area and its traditional owners, their passions, their difficulties and their deep-seated love of their country. Strongly recommend this tour.
