点评：Dullstroom – Beautiful Surroundings, but a Missed Opportunity
Dullstroom is undeniably a beautiful little town. The accommodation was excellent, the natural surroundings are peaceful, and it remains a lovely escape from the city.
Unfortunately, the town itself did not live up to our expectations.
The shopping experience was disappointing. Many of the stores sell the same commercial products, with very little originality or genuine craftsmanship. We had hoped to find unique artisan-made items that reflected the character of the area, but instead found many shops offering similar imported or mass-produced goods.
When compared with a destination like Clarens, the difference is significant. Clarens offers a vibrant collection of artists, craftsmen, galleries, and independent boutiques that make walking through the town an experience in itself. Dullstroom, by comparison, feels as though it has not yet reached that standard.
The restaurant offering is also quite limited. While there are a few good establishments, for a town that has become such a popular weekend destination, we expected a broader selection of memorable dining experiences.
Dullstroom has all the ingredients to become one of South Africa's premier weekend destinations—beautiful scenery, a relaxed atmosphere, and quality accommodation. What it now needs is a stronger focus on supporting local artisans, encouraging original retail experiences, and expanding its culinary scene. Doing so would give visitors more reasons to explore the town itself rather than simply using it as a base for the surrounding countryside.
