Great resort, but significant sewerage problem

点评：Puerto de Mogan, overall, is a pretty, well kept resort. The so called canals however, are far from a "mini Vence". The main canal which enters the sea fills up from the incoming tide, which appears to carry out sewerage to the sea as the tide lowers. Yesterday, 14/12/24, the smell was horrendous as the wind blew the smell onto the beach sunbed area. The water in the bay is always cloudy, likely from backwash sewerage. Once past the breakwater, snorkeling is okay and visibility greatly increases. ..loads of fish to see. Most of the restaurants are somewhat over priced and are there to solely cater for the tourists...there appears to be no real Spanish tapas bars where the locals eat, which are what we like to find. There are some higher class "drip, drops and smears" restaurants with "tasting menus " ..you know...those you leave hungry from and are 80 + euros each. The two main supermarkets..Spar and Dino, are quite good.....as I can cook well and probably better than most of the tourists restaurants, we catered for ourselves after buying a few meals out which were pretty average. Billy's do a good cooked breakfast which is around 7 euros if you go before 11....after that it doubles in price. We found they did the best, hot , strong Cafe con Leche. There for 2 weeks...travelled extensively around the island and Mogan was probably the prettiest coastal resort. Care needed too at Amadores beach.....raw sewerage, (masses of grey foam) floating along the shoreline.....we didn't stop and went onto Puerto Rico, but could see the same line of grey scum about 100m offshore along the coast. The Canaries have an obvious sewerage pollution problem which is so sad and needs rectifying....we've been to the islands for the last 5 years and it's just getting worse, to the extent we'll begin to go elsewhere soon.
