Place Clemenceau的点评
点评：The Place Clemenceau, named for the famous French statesman Georges Clemenceau, can easily be defined as the centre of Pau. Quite big and covered with shiny flagstones it also has a fountain with a small female sculpture by Paul Auban, called 'La Source' (the spring). Behind it is an attractive Art Deco building, which housed the 'Galeries Lafayette' until they had to close after a big fire in 2016. Otherwise the square, which underwent several changes, is surrounded by constructions from different periods and styles, thus it cannot be called harmonious.
Positive is the fact that since a total renovation in 2006 the place is now fully pedestrianised as almost all the streets that lead from here in every direction. The Rue Maréchal Joffre will take one to the small Place Reine Marguerite and on to the Château, while the Avenue de Lattre de Tassigny brings one towards the Boulevard des Pyrénées. With the renovation also a subterranean parking for about 400 cars had been added. The Place Clemenceau with cafés and shops is especially in daytime quite full of people, having become a popular meeting point.
