点评:I last visited Brookgreen Gardens in 1988. They have really grown! Wow! We spent 2 days at the gardens - tickets are good for 7 days. Buy your tickets online or at the main Admissions Plaza - do not go to the little Gardener's Cottage that says it is a welcome area. The newest Welcome Plaza and gardens are superb! The older areas are tired and not well maintained - I am an educated experienced Horticulturist. The trails lead you through many outdoor and indoor sculpture gardens boasting the enormous number of sculptures - there are sculptures to please every taste. The food service on site is great - we ate at the Old Kitchen the quiche was awesome! Day 2 we ate a sandwich at the Courtyard Cafe at the Lowcountry Center. Staffing for the grounds and maintenance of the many ponds/fountains is lacking - there were many water features that were either drained, nonfunctional or under repair. We took The Creek Excursion that was well guided by an awesome captain and eloquent speaker/guide - we learned so much about the plantation life and development and rice cultivation history. The Creek Excursion is an extra $12 and tickets can be purchased at the Lowcountry Center. You must also seek out historic features of the plantation along the trails near the waterfront/dock areas. The zoo is somewhat of an afterthought and is just adequately maintained. There are several other available tours that we will return to enjoy one day in the future.
NOTE: There are many trained and experienced guides throughout every area of Brookgreen - seek them out or they will interact with you - I would say that each one of them we encountered were the nicest and knowledgeable folks you could ever meet. Go visit Brookgreen Gardens - it is a wonderful experience!
