点评：Jalpapara National park is one of the best known wildlife sanctuaries in India and the most popular among the national parks in the Dooars region. It is one of the largest homes of the one-horned rhino. Additionaly, elephants, bisons, hog deer, sambar and a variety of birds including peacocks live in this park which comprises of large tracts of grasslands and patches of riverine forests. A number of small rivers and rivulets run through the park. There are two kinds of safaris here - Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari. Safaris can be booked online through the website of WBFDA. We paid Rs480/- for online booking of the afternoon jeep safari for 4 persons and Rs.4080/- for the morning elephant safari for 4 persons. Gypsys can accommodate 6 persons, while only 4 are permitted on an elephant. For the afternoon jeep safari, you need to be at the Madarihut NIC with photo identity cards in original by 10am. This office is close to the Jaldapara Tourist Lodge where we stayed. We paid an additional amount of Rs.2450/- for the gypsy safari and Rs.750/- for the elephant safari. The figures are for 4 persons. The afternoon jeep safari was very nice and we could see bisons,elephants, peacocks and a few rhinos. There was a Bodo Dance by local girls at the end of the safari. This is part of the safari and a commendable effort to provide some income to local tribal people. The elephant safari is in the morning and starts from the Hollong Tourist Lodge. This gives you a real close feel of the forest and you need to be careful about branches hanging close. It is recommended to take both the safaris as the experience is quite different for each. Do carry your photo ID cards and sufficient cash for payment at the counters.
