When you’re heading out for a fishing charter, you want a safe, professional, productive and sustainable experience, and Reef Encounters delivers all of the above in spades.
From the great communication and booking process run by Nadine, the expert skippering of Ryan, and the friendly and hardworking onboard assistance of Nathan, the whole team contributes to provide an easy, exciting, and unforgettable trip.
Based in the amazing Pondalowie Bay in the picturesque Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park, Ryan has over 3000 tried and tested fishing spots, ensuring reliable and eco-sustainable catches off South Australia’s southern Yorke Peninsula.
Our group of five were joined by another seven guests, and we set off just after first light. With the Tuna season in a temporary hiatus, our trip initially took us out past Wedge Island chasing Nannygai, and we were not disappointed with the fish hitting the hooks from the first drop, and not letting up until we reached our bag limit after only 40 minutes! Quite a number of fish in the 60cm range were pulled up, among the 40 to 50 cm average fish, leaving everyone aboard massaging weary biceps after what was essentially an aerobic workout.
Then it was back towards Ponde targeting shark, and I was fortunate enough to land a lovely gummy shark on the first drop.
Heading back in to base gave us plenty of time to share our stories and reflect on a magnificent day of fishing, one which will remain firmly embedded in my memories for years to come.
You couldn’t ask for a better fishing experience than spending a day with Reef Encounters, one which I would recommend to anyone with a hankering to try a deep-sea charter.
