McLean Mill National Historic Site的点评
点评：This was a rare occasion where my review rating (3/5) is not totally consistent with my personal experience on the day.
We visited on a wet November morning; we knew from their website that the facility was only open on a self guided basis, so the complete lack of services was as expected. We enjoyed exploring the site for an hour or so, very atmospheric to walk around the rusting machinery and semi derelict buildings, trying to figure out how things worked “back in the day” from the somewhat limited signage available. On the other hand I can totally see why others ( families with small children for example) might be disappointed ( and perhaps concerned with the state of repair of the site from a safety perspective). Hence my overall review as “average”. I suppose one might expect that a place designated as a “national historic site” might get funding that matched the rather grandiose designation, but apparently not. In reading some old TA reviews from 2018 it seems like they may have really had something going here for a while , with a train trip to the site, equipment demonstrations etc. It is something of a shame that sufficient financial resources don’t seem to be available to maintain that type of visitor experience.
If you do go, be aware that there was a smart phone QR code near the visitor centre that you could ( apparently) scan to download a site map. We didn’t try it because we didn’t see the code until on our way out. If I was involved in management of the facility, I might look to using the QR code type technology throughout the site, as a potentially economical way to add to the visitor experience.
