点评:What a fantastic evening we had with Trina in her ATV, bouncing along "roads" through the stunning Gros Morne landscape, uphill and down, glimpsing shimmering lakes and looming mountains through the forest and low cloud. We were due to meet for a lunchtime trip, our earlier boat trip being delayed but Trina kindly accommodated us later on in the afternoon, which turned into a magical experience, finally leaving for home at dusk. During our time, Trina told us of her heritage, of which she is justifiably proud, and of her family's native history, how they walked days through nowhere, summer and winter, to fish and hunt and trap, simply to survive on the land. She showed us innumerable edible plants, spectacular views and explained a life none those I know have had to live. We had a picnic with traditional food - fresh cod cakes and moose soup (delicious) oh and cheesecake with jams from local berries. And we made our own "margaritas, grinding powdered berries with pebbles in a scallop shell!
What also shone through during our trip was Trina's determination to make Under the Stump activities, especially trips into the backcountry, accessible for all abilities, she has a true dedication and a passion for inclusivity.
At one point we rounded a bend in the track, and came within 20 ft of a young moose. He was gigantic! I see now why they can wreck a car and just bounce off.
The cloud finally cleared just before sunset and the elusive mountain finally showed itself glowing pink.
No time for a photo of the moose alas, so one of me with a wolf paw, and my daughter and I making our margaritas.
Thank you Trina for a really unforgettable experience, you are an absolute diamond!
