We were genuinely excited to visit this thrift/antique shop in Catania. When we first arrived around 4pm, it was closed, but a sign on the door said it would reopen at 5pm. So we waited, took a long walk, had something to eat, and came back around 5:10.
What followed was one of the most bizarre and uncomfortable shop experiences we’ve ever had. The man at the door seemed completely caught off guard by our presence — just stared at us in silence, as if we were intruding. When we politely asked if we could come in and look around, he said yes, but in the most hesitant, sketchy way imaginable.
We started browsing, but it quickly became impossible to ignore how agitated and impatient he was, hovering near the door and fidgeting as if we were an inconvenience. So I asked directly if we were actually welcome or if he had somewhere else to be. His response was incredibly rude — muttering something about needing to go next door, making it clear we were a nuisance.
At that point, we decided to leave. He mumbled something as we walked out, but the whole thing left a really sour taste. Easily the rudest shop experience we’ve had anywhere. Save yourself the time and hassle — there are plenty of welcoming, lovely places to explore in Catania. This isn’t one of them.
