Finally got to see the real thing!
Protestant Martyrs Memorial的点评
点评：Googled the English Heritage record, then cheekily drove up the hill into the Estate. As others said, very hard to find and not signposted at all (because on private land..?) but aforementioned EH site has a nap and house names, so ventured up an overgrown path for it to appear majestically in view!
This was a lifetime's ambition, as my GGG Great Uncle was Arthur Morris, whose 'untiring zeal' helped get the monument erected in 1901.
Some might say I needn't have bothered, as I am the proud owner of a 1/2" to 1ft scale granite model of it... that was given to him at the time :)
Just wish the ground was less overgrown and its presence better known in the town beyond the plaque on Eastgate Baptist Church, but mission accomplished, and thank-you Lewes for keeping alive the memory of the 17 martyrs, and the residents of the Cuiltail Estate for maintaining acces.
